# Template Staged Reference Material
This directory is for support-only staged material used during local source, reference, and evidence work for a project pack.
Typical staged items include:
- copied source excerpts,
- sample payloads or exported artifacts,
- fixture manifests,
- scraped reference snapshots,
- comparison notes,
- temporary indexes showing where evidence lives.
## Canonical versus staged
- `../references.md` is the curated authoritative, versioned reference, terminology, and dependency map.
- `../corpus-brief.md` is the canonical statement of source authority and evidence-routing rules.
- Files in this directory are local support material only.
If a staged file contains an important lasting conclusion, promote that conclusion into the canonical pack docs instead of leaving it stranded here.
## Ignore guidance
The repo's versioned Fossil ignore policy uses `projects/*/references/*`, so it matches this directory's `README.md` as well as every other file here. This template placeholder stays versioned because it is already tracked; when scaffolding a new pack, explicitly add/promote the new `references/README.md` if you want that boundary note checked in, and do the same for any other staged file you truly want versioned support content.
It is normal for this directory to begin with only the placeholder README.
